On July 17-19, 2020, Professor Barbara Barron conducted a training course for the faculty of the Institut Superieur  de la Profession d’Avocat (ISAP), a post graduate institute for Tunisian lawyers, an institute that the Tunisian Ministries of Justice and Education established.

The course was designed to train the ISPA faculty of judges and lawyers, to create and teach courses on human rights issues that will utilize participatory learning concepts in order to teach the graduate students not only the law, but applied representational skills.  The specific goals were to develop four courses involving the right to a fair trial under the new provisions in the Tunisian Constitution and international law.

Over the three days, Professor Barron conducted brainstorming sessions in order to identify key course components, met with the participants to discuss and refine their course concepts, and had the participants teach their specific courses to their colleagues.

The course is part of a two year program to integrate interactive teaching methodologies in Tunisian legal education as part of an international initiative sponsored by the ABA Rule of Law Initiative and the International Legal Assistance Consortium.  ILAC, based in Sweden, is an international non-governmental organization that has been working with the Tunisian legal community to innovate and enhance legal education.

The course was conducted over Zoom in English and Arabic.
