Professor Linda Galler spoke on December 18 at the 2020 Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) Grantee Conference in Washington, D.C.
Other members of the panel, “Ethics: Practice Before the IRS and U.S. Tax Court,” were Sharyn M. Fisk, Director, IRS Office of Professional Responsibility and David M. Sams, Executive Director, The Community Tax Law Project.
The conference was attended by representatives of approximately 150 low-income taxpayer clinics from 49 states and the District of Columbia.
The Hofstra Law Federal Tax Clinic, directed by Professor Galler, was recently awarded a $100,000 grant. This is the fifth year in which the Hofstra Tax Clinic has received a grant under a program administered by the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service.
Hofstra Law students enrolled in the Federal Tax Clinical Practicum represent low-income taxpayers in regular and small case proceedings before the U.S. Tax Court; in IRS examinations, appeals and collections matters; and before the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance.
