Happy 2022 and welcome to the latest issue of In Re Hofstra Law! I hope this finds you, wherever you may be and whatever you may be doing, in good spirits. This year, one of my top priorities is to foster an environment that builds more robust connections within the Hofstra Law community. I believe it is so important to stay in touch with your community, particularly when we can’t always be in-person.
It’s a new year with many new beginnings. I want to personally connect with you, connect you as alumni with our students, and connect alumni with each other. There are so many ways that you as alumni can benefit from being connected with each other and current students including networking, business referrals, and talent acquisition. As Hofstra Law welcomes 2022, hopeful and dedicated as always to its students and the cultivation of their legal talents, I look forward to building on our connections as alumni and facilitating professional relationships within our community.
This month alone we have launched two mentorship programs: the inaugural Diversity Mentorship Program and the 1L Mentorship Program for first-year law students. These critical programs facilitate the creation of long-lasting relationships between students and Hofstra Law alumni.
I hope you enjoy reading this edition of In Re Hofstra Law, and I wish you all the best for 2022.
Inaugural Diversity Mentorship Program
On Tuesday, January 11, Hofstra Law hosted its inaugural Diversity Mentorship Program Orientation. The program includes 70 alumni mentors and law student mentees. The Diversity Mentorship Program was created to serve Hofstra Law 2L and 3L students from underrepresented communities in the legal profession. It gives students the opportunity to connect with an alumni mentor to help refine their networking skills and increase their professional development, all while fostering productive and long-lasting relationships with Hofstra Law alumni.
Hofstra Law 1L Mentorship Program
On Wednesday, January 19, we kicked-off the 1L Mentorship Program, now in its seventh year. Hofstra Law is especially excited about this year’s program as it is the single largest mentoring program we have put together to date, including 52 students and 50 alumni in the program. Each alum was hand-selected to match the interests set forth by the students in their applications and personal statements. We look forward to watching these connections blossom into long-lasting professional relationships well beyond the spring semester.
