Ariana Militello has a bachelor’s degree in forensic psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Her drive to help reform the prison and jail systems is what inspired her to enter into the legal field. After graduating college she decided to enroll in Hofstra Law’s Paralegal Certificate Program to get a feel of what law school would be like before committing to it. Her work within the program led her to obtaining a position at JOEY JACKSON LAW, PLLC., founded by Hofstra Law alumnus Joey Jackson ’95. Ariana has plans of taking the LSAT and applying to law school in the fall.
“I think that it gives you a good overview not as intense as law school but a good overview so that you have a good starting point where you have a little bit of basis for a little bit of everything.”
A Great Introduction to Law
Hofstra Law’s Paralegal Certificate Program covers a wide variety of law that sets students up for success at any law firm.
“I kind of feel over prepared in a sense,” she says. “I think that it gives you a good overview not as intense as law school but a good overview so that you have a good starting point where you have a little bit of basis for a little bit of everything.”
Valuable Insights
Classes are taught by practicing attorneys that give students information on current trends in law and advice on how they can succeed in the field.
“My favorite part was meeting all the lawyers and getting their personal insight. All of them were really fabulous and were so kind. Specifically, Aniella Russo and Elaine Colavito, they were fabulous and they always offered personal insight,” she says. “It felt like no question was silly and that you could go to them for advice if need be.”
Comprehensive Learning Environment
Students in the program learn skills that will put them ahead of the game as a paralegal.
“I learned a lot of technical skills like how to go about filing certain documents to the courts and how to write basic outlines of legal documentation,” she says. “I also learned the best mindset to put myself in, meaning you want to be professional of course and keep in mind that there’s going to be a million things happening at once and how to focus on one thing at a time.”
