Other federal appeals court judges who went on the trip included Timothy Tymkovich of the Tenth Circuit and Lawrence VanDyke and Patrick Bumatay, both of the Ninth Circuit.
“[I]t should serve as a cautionary tale for any judge considering attending privately funded, one-sided, ideologically purposed presentations and then later adjudicating matters involving the same issues,” said Sample, a Hofstra University Maurice A. Deane School of Law professor.
