About the Scholarship Recipients
Elizabeth Mauter
Elizabeth Mauter is a third-year student at Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University and serves as the president for the Latino/a American Law Students Association. As a Hispanic woman raised in a bicultural home in a diverse New York community, she is dedicated to representing the Hispanic community in the legal field. Valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion, she believes they are vital for fair participation in the legal profession and courts. She is committed to continuing her lifelong efforts to support and protect the Hispanic community through both her volunteer work and professional career.
Gisselle Rodas
Gisselle Rodas is a third-year student at Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University and serves as the editor in chief of the ACTEC Law Journal. She participated in Hofstra’s Legal Education Accelerated Program, which enables students to obtain both their bachelors and Juris Doctor degrees within six years. From a young age her heritage and immigration law have played vital roles in her life and legal career. While growing up in the Town of Hempstead she saw firsthand the injustices and lack of representation the Hispanic/Latino community faced on Long Island. She is currently a Long Island Immigration Advocacy Fellow, where she sits in on hearings and translates legal screening as well as helps write legal briefs.
Miles Goldberg
Miles Goldberg is a part-time first-year student at Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history and a Minor in Latin American studies from SUNY Geneseo. His interest in the law and community stems from an early age, having served on the Youth Court of New Rochelle, two internships with the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, acting as a district leader in his hometown of New Rochelle, and attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Prior to law school, Miles worked with SpeakEasy Services, an interpreting and translation agency that provides language services for those unable to speak English during their legal and medical proceedings. Miles is a first-generation Ecuadorian American, the son of an Ecuadorian immigrant mother. Upon graduation, Miles aspires to become a family law attorney. He also hopes to promote the advancement of the Hispanic Community and wants to help inspire other students who are interested in the field of law.
