Professor James Sample appeared in a Nov. 11, 2015, News 12 Long Island report on New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s decision to order daily fantasy sports companies DraftKings and FanDuel to stop accepting bets in the state, saying their operations amount to illegal gambling.
Professor Sample commented on Schneiderman’s finding that “daily fantasy sports is neither victimless nor harmless, and it is clear that DraftKings and FanDuel are the leaders of a massive, multibillion-dollar scheme intended to evade the law and fleece sports fans across the country.”
He also explained that federal law allows the daily fantasy sports companies to operate as games of skill but that states have the prerogative to decide for themselves.
