Barbara S. Barron, Professor of Skills, Director of the Trial Techniques Program, Director of Student Advocacy Programs and Faculty Advisor to Moot Court Board

Professor Barbara S. Barron is serving as a curriculum-development consultant to the Balkans Regional Rule of Law Network (BRRLN), a consortium of attorneys from five Balkan countries (Bosnia-Herzogovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Macedonia and Albania) for a course on gender-based violence. The course is sponsored by BRRLN, USAID, the Partnership For Transparency Fund, the ABA-Rule of Law Initiative, and Hogan Lovells International LLP.

The goal of the course, which will be offered throughout the region in 2016 in June and September, is to train the advocates in the representation of victims of gender-based violence.

Areas to be addressed during the course include understanding the victims, building a criminal case against the abuser, building a civil case against the abuser, and the concomitant problems of child custody, compensation, and victim intimidation.

Each area will provide attendees with the underlying law and will give them the opportunity to apply the law in a series of skills simulations targeted to the particular issues of gender-based violence in the region.
