On Dec. 4, 2014, Professor Alafair S. Burke presented “The Effects of Cognitive Heuristics on Prosecutorial Discretion” at “Discovery Bootcamp for New Prosecutors,” a training conference for all new assistant U.S. attorneys.
The conference, sponsored by the Department of Justice’s National Advocacy Center, was held at the National Advocacy Center in Columbia, S.C.
Professor Burke has spoken to prosecutors across the country about her scholarly work exploring the implications of cognitive research for prosecutorial discretion. This discussion focused specifically on the prosecution’s duty, under Brady v. Maryland, to disclose exculpatory evidence to the defense.
