Alafair S. Burke, Professor of Law and Hofstra Research Fellow

Professor Alafair S. Burke taught as a faculty member for the Department of Justice’s Office of Professional Responsibility on Dec. 7, 2016, at the National Advocacy Center.

Her class used principles of cognitive psychology to demonstrate the ways in which even ethical prosecutors might fail to disclose exculpatory evidence to the defense as required by Brady v. Maryland.

Professor Burke’s scholarship in the field is now a required component of mandatory training for all federal prosecutors regarding a prosecutor’s disclosure obligations.

The National Advocacy Center is operated by the Department of Justice, Executive Office for United States Attorneys, and is on the campus of the University of South Carolina.
