Hofstra Law Professor Alafair S. Burke has been elected as a new member of the American Law Institute (ALI).

ALI is the leading independent organization in the United States producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize and improve the law. ALI members are highly regarded judges, lawyers and law professors who are nominated confidentially by their peers, reviewed by ALI’s Membership Committee and elected by the ALI Council. The number of members that may be elected is limited to 3,000 (not including life, honorary and ex officio members).

Professor Burke has been a member of the Hofstra Law faculty since 2001. Her scholarship has been published in numerous academic journals, including the Yale, Michigan, George Washington, North Carolina, Washington, and William and Mary law reviews.

She frequently works with the Department of Justice and state and local prosecutors across the country to improve the quality of prosecutorial discretion.
