Judge A. Gail Prudenti, dean of Hofstra Law and a longtime advocate for children and families in crisis, has been recognized in the 2017 edition of the National Law Journal special supplement Divorce, Trusts & Estates Trailblazers.

The 39 honorees in this year’s class of Trailblazers are “people who continue make their mark in various aspects of legal work in the areas of family law, trusts & estates. … A common thread ties them together: each has shown a deep passion and perseverance in pursuit of their mission, having achieved remarkable successes along the way.”

Short profiles in the publication highlight each Trailblazer’s “Pioneer Spirit,” “Trails Blazed” and “Future Explorations.”

In her profile, Judge Prudenti describes the genesis of her passion for family law: After graduating from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, “I thought I would be an international lawyer, but I got homesick. So I got a job at the New York Suffolk County Surrogate’s Court,” working as a clerk and a lawyer. “I saw families in crisis. The cases made me a better person, lawyer and judge.”
