On July 31, Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C. announced the unanimous election of Hofstra Law alumna Patricia Galteri ’83 as president and managing attorney of the firm. Effective Sept. 1, she will succeed Lois Carter Schlissel, who has led the firm and managed its four offices in Garden City, New York City, Albany and Washington, D.C., since 2002. Galteri will be the sixth managing attorney in Meyer Suozzi’s 57-year history.
Galteri has been serving as chair of the Wills, Trusts & Estates Department, a member of the Management Committee, and treasurer. In April, she received the Hofstra Outstanding Women in Law Award, which recognizes women who make meaningful and inspiring contributions to the legal community. And in 2013, she was cited for excellence by Five Star Professional for her work with high-net-worth clients.
“It is quite an honor to be elected by my colleagues to this leadership role,” said Galteri in the Meyer Suozzi press release. “I will continue the many initiatives Lois and the Management Committee have undertaken and will work diligently with members of the firm as we look towards the future to support our diverse practice areas and foster excellence in our capabilities.”
Galteri has practiced law for more than 30 years. She joined Meyer Suozzi after working as a staff attorney in the Tax Department at one of the Big Five accounting firms in New York City.
“I have had the pleasure of working with Pat for many years. She is a talented and highly regarded attorney, and a wonderful colleague and motivating leader,” said Harold Ickes, chairman of the firm, in the press release. “Meyer Suozzi is very fortunate to have her excellent skills to lead the firm in an ever-changing legal profession.”
Galteri is also committed to the local community, serving as chair of the Board of Advisors of the Long Island Community Foundation and supporting charities and philanthropic organizations such as the National Kidney Foundation, Long Island Cruizin’ for a Cure, and Wounded Warriors.
