But not everyone hates the Universal Postal Union. Julian Ku, a law professor at Hofstra University, says even though the treaty costs USPS money, it also gives the Post Office a competitive advantage: “If you’re overseas and you want to mail something to someone in the U.S., you’re going to use the U.S. Postal Service; because of these agreements, it’s cheaper to do it through the U.S. Postal Service than through FedEx or UPS.”
