Associate Clinical Professor Michael Haber, attorney-in-charge of the Community and Economic Development Clinic, presented on the panel “Solidarity Economies” at the “The Urgency of Poverty” Symposium on Oct. 25. The event was hosted by the Tennessee Journal of Race, Gender, and Social Justice at the University of Tennessee College of Law.
The topic of Professor Haber’s presentation was “Participatory Budgeting in NYC: Participatory Democracy or Politics as Usual?”
The symposium, which was inspired by the 50th anniversary of the Poor People’s Campaign, explored the transactional lawyer’s role in economic justice. The keynote speaker was Philip Alston, the U.N.’s special rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights.
