The Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University is pleased to welcome Allyson T.S. Lehrer as the new Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving. We conducted a short Q&A with her so that you can get to know her better.
Tell us a little about your background.
I’m a New York transplant, originally from LA, with a brief pit stop in Texas before landing on Long Island. Prior to Hofstra, I worked as the director of admissions and outreach for a quirky middle and high school. Previous to that, I worked in the nonprofit and foundation space, in the areas of community engagement and corporate philanthropy, with local, national and global companies of all sizes.
What drew you to Hofstra Law?
As someone new to Long Island, I was constantly hearing the Hofstra name and meeting wonderful people who had graduated from or worked at the University. I gravitated to the Law School because of its innovative programs and the way in which the administration, faculty and students care for not only each other but also those in the broader community.
What are you most looking forward to in your new role?
There is so much I’m excited for, but I am most eager to get to know alumni beyond the inbox. I am looking forward to connecting in person, hearing about what was impactful for alumni while they were students, and learning about who they are now. I’m always up for a cup of caffeine or trying a new restaurant, so I’m always happy to meet anyone at their convenience at their favorite restaurant or coffee shop. Of course, I can also swing by anyone’s office. I know it’s not always easy to dip out.
Anything else?
Yes! If you’re reading this and we don’t know each other yet, please don’t stay a stranger. Whether you are a member of Hofstra Law’s first graduating class or a newly minted alum, I look forward to meeting you. I hope that through getting to know each other, we can identify meaningful ways to maintain or reestablish involvement with the Law School, as well as opportunities to support current, future and former students through the generous sharing of connections and resources.
Allyson is best reached by email at Allyson.T.Lehrer@hofstra.edu, and she can be reached by phone on campus at 516-463-4390.
