The Hofstra Law team of Michael La Pinta 1L, Gabriella Klein 2L, Matthew Perticone 1L and Dana Suekoff 2L advanced to the semifinals in the 11th annual Capitol City Challenge, held from March 21-24 at the Tenley Campus of American University Washington College of Law.
The competition consisted of 24 teams. The Hofstra Law team went 4-1, besting teams from Chicago-Kent College of Law, Fordham University School of Law, UC Davis School of Law and the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University. The team lost in the semifinals to the team from Georgetown University Law Center, which ultimately won the competition.
The Hofstra Law team was coached by Carissa Danesi ’16, Laura Dorfman ’12 and Kaitlyn Flynn ’14.
The Capital City Challenge is hosted by American University Washington College of Law Stephen S. Weinstein Trial Advocacy Program and Mock Trial Honor Society. The competitors are evaluated and critiqued by approximately 50 experienced federal and state prosecutors, public defenders and private practice attorneys. The competition exposes participants to the dynamics of trial advocacy in a 21st-century courtroom.
