On July 16, 2021, Professor Stefan Krieger presented the paper, Murder in the Family at the virtual Eighth Biennial Applied Legal Storytelling Conference hosted by Mercer University School of Law. The paper explores the communal and legal narratives surrounding the 1915 murder trial of a Polish immigrant accused of murdering Professor Krieger’s great-grandfather, an immigrant Jew, in a small town in upstate New York. In the paper, Professor Krieger examines the nature of storytelling in the historical context of two diverse immigrant communities confronting the legal system in an American small town in the early twentieth century.
