Hofstra Law Competes in South Texas Mock Trial Challenge

Hofstra Law students competed in person March 24-26, 2022, in the South Texas Mock Trial Challenge in Houston, Texas finishing as semifinalists.  The student advocates representing Hofstra Law were Danielle Ebbighausen ’22, Julia Iacono ’22, John Margolies ’22 and Alexandra Laird ’23.  The team was coached by Courtney Charles, Joanna Rosenblatt and Jared Rosenblatt.

Hofstra Law’s team was not only semifinalists in this 40 team trial competition, but was awarded the best trial brief for the entire competition.  Each of the 40 teams are required to submit a trial brief on a legal issue from the fact pattern.  Hofstra was the only New York law school to make it past the octo-finals. This is the third time in the last six years Hofstra reached the semifinals at this prestigious competition and the only New York school in the 10 years of the tournament to make the semifinals.

This year’s problem was a damages only trial to impose damages related to the transmission of the measles virus at a day care facility.

Hosted by South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas, the South Texas Mock Trial Challenge is one of the preeminent mock trial competitions in the country. As the largest invitational trial competition in America, the South Texas Mock Trial Challenge hosts teams from across the nation. Most competing schools opt to send their very best advocates.
