On April 5, the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University celebrated its 50th Anniversary and inducted 50 alumni, as well as 16 distinguished alumni on the bench, into its inaugural Hall of Fame. The sold-out event was held at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
During the celebration, Judge Gail Prudenti, Dean of Hofstra Law, announced that the Law School raised more than $20 million as part of its Vision 2020 Campaign, far surpassing its initial goal of $12.5 million and its stretch goal of $17.5 million.
“The inaugural Hall of Fame inductees have played a critical role in shaping Hofstra Law’s past, present and future successes,” said Judge Gail Prudenti, Dean of Hofstra Law. “It was truly a special evening to be able to recognize their outstanding accomplishments, celebrate Hofstra Law’s treasured history, and toast to the Vision 2020 Campaign’s significant milestone and the Law School’s bright future.”
The Campaign, which began its planning and silent phase during the fall of 2018, and will conclude in August 2022, has already had a transformative impact on the Law School — increasing scholarship support to 193 named scholarships for students, developing new programs in legal technology, creating new centers of excellence, and enhancing incoming student credentials. Campaign funds also enabled the Law School to quickly adapt to virtual and hybrid teaching during the Pandemic, with upgraded lecture capture technology in all classrooms.
Only the second campaign in the Law School’s history, funds raised from the Vision 2020 Campaign ensure that Hofstra Law continues to recruit outstanding and diverse students; expand its cutting-edge programs in areas such as legal technology; create new interdisciplinary programs with Hofstra’s graduate schools; and make a difference in the community through its clinics and centers.
“The Campaign gives the Law School the financial stability needed to continue the pioneering spirit of our founders as we look ahead to new innovative ways to prepare the next generation of legal leaders,” said Judge Prudenti. “We are so grateful for the unwavering support and extraordinary generosity of our Hofstra Law alumni and friends for helping us exceed our Campaign goal.”
Hofstra Law established the Hall of Fame to honor alumni whose exemplary careers, or extraordinary service to the betterment of society, or outstanding contributions to the Law School have significantly impacted the Hofstra Law community and beyond. The Hall of Fame inductees were nominated by their peers, and selected by a committee of Hofstra Law alumni, faculty and administrators.
The Law School created a Hall of Fame website to showcase its inaugural class. More information about the Vision 2020 Campaign can be found at law2020.hofstra.edu.
