From March 31 to April 3, 2022, the Hofstra Law Mock Trial team competed and won the Peter James Johnson ’49 National Civil Rights Mock Trial Competition at St. John’s University.
The team consisted of second- and third-year law students Matt Brown, Jeremy Williams, Jesslyn Bracco, and Tim Matthews. They were coached by alumni Kaitlyn Flynn ’14 and David Santana ’17.
The annual competition is the only national civil rights trial competition in the country that offers law students from up to 16 law schools an opportunity to try a civil rights case in an actual courtroom setting before prominent jurists and trial attorneys. The competition was renamed the Peter James Johnson ’49 National Civil Rights Trial Competition in 2008 in honor of Peter James Johnson ’49, a St. John’s Law graduate who dedicated his legal career to excellence in the practice of law.
