This year from July 27-29, four students in Hofstra Law’s student organization OUTLaw attended the 2022 Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair. The event which is hosted by the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association is held every year and brings LGBTQ+ and ally legal professionals together.

What does it mean to you to be able to attend the Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair?
“Having entered law school in August 2020 in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, both the virtual 2021 and this year in-person Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair in Los Angeles have allowed me the opportunity to make connections with law school students outside my program and more experienced legal professionals at a point in time when having the ability to make these connections was limited. Attending Lavender Law means to me making connections with others, hearing their stories and opinions, and then returning to Hofstra Law and being able to use what I learned from those other individuals to be a better advocate within our community.”

What did you take away from the Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair?
“I am so glad I could attend the Lavender Law Conference in Los Angeles this year. I met many wonderful people and learned a great deal about legal and political issues currently impacting the LGBTQ+ community. The career fair was the highlight of the event for me. I enjoyed talking with many different law firms, corporations, and nonprofits about job opportunities after graduation. I also appreciated the different approaches the firms take to providing opportunities and mentorship for LGBTQ+ interns and new associates. Overall, it was a great experience, and I look forward to attending again next year.”

What did you take away from the Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair?
“The fair affirmed my belief that many companies are looking to hire diverse applicants, including those in the LGBTQ+ community. I spoke with several firms with LGBTQ+ affinity groups to ensure their associates are happy within their organization. I hope to come back next year and reconnect with my new friends.”
