The Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University hosted 50 students, alumni and trial attorneys for three unique intensive trial skills programs during the week of August 8. The Law School continued its longstanding partnership with the National Institute for Trial Advocacy to host the Basic Skills Northeast Regional Program.

Hofstra Law, along with NITA and the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office, also hosted a unique trial advocacy course for 10 prosecutors from the DA’s Office. Hofstra Law Professor Barbara Barron created and directed these programs, including a special training curriculum and original material tailored for the assistant district attorneys.

Additionally, the Law School held its Summer Session Trial Technique course, where students get immersive experience into essential aspects of courtroom litigation, including opening statements; summation; direct and cross examination; documentary evidence and expert testimony.

Hofstra Law alumni were involved in all three courses as instructors as well as holding leadership positions.

The Law School is nationally recognized for its trial advocacy offerings. It has received an “A” rating for its trial advocacy offerings from preLaw Magazine, placing it in the top 27 of law schools within the United States.
