Dear Hofstra Law Community and Friends,

We have reached a pivotal moment in the history of our Law School.

With our 50th Anniversary celebration and Vision 2020 fundraising campaign complete, now is the time for Hofstra Law to blaze a new trail as we create cutting-edge initiatives to prepare the next generation of legal leaders.

I am pleased to announce that our Vision 2020 campaign raised nearly $22 million, far surpassing our initial goal of $12.5 million and stretch goal of $17.5 million.

The Campaign, which began its planning and silent phase during the fall of 2018, has already had a transformative effect on the Law School:

  • Increased student support to more than 200 named scholarships and fellowships.
  • Improved median LSAT score by 5 points and bottom quartile LSAT score by 6 points from 2016-2022.
  • Launched a Diversity Mentorship Program with an inaugural group of 70 alumni mentors and law student mentees.
  • Supported faculty scholarship and hiring.
  • Quickly adapted to virtual and hybrid teaching during the Pandemic with upgraded lecture capture technology in all classrooms, and modernized classrooms, student lounge, and public event spaces.
  • Created Dean’s Legal Tech Fellowship Program for law and engineering students to work on artificial intelligence projects in the Law, Logic & Technology Research Lab, and added 5 new legal tech courses to the curriculum.
  • Developed new centers of excellence and interdisciplinary programs with Hofstra’s graduate schools.

Additionally, the Campaign’s impact continues to be felt this academic year:

  • Our Class of 2025 is one of the most highly credentialed classes in recent years.
  • The Law School hired and promoted 5 new full-time members for the 2022-23 academic year.
  • For the Class of 2021, the Law School reported its highest job placement numbers in the last decade for full-time, long-term bar passage required and JD advantage positions 10 months after graduation. For the Class of 2022, the Law School has already reported 67% job placement at graduation, a nearly double digit improvement over prior years.
  • On October 7, Hofstra Law will host a National Legal Innovation Tournament with the New York State Bar Association and Hofstra’s School of Engineering and Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

This fall, the Law School will also host special events to celebrate the naming of the Abrams Fensterman Lobby; the Leeds Brown Law Classroom; The Robert and Priscilla Livingston Center for Children, Families, and the Law; as well as the launch of the Perry Weitz Mass Torts Institute.

With our world, the legal profession and our community changing rapidly, Hofstra Law remains positioned to prepare, challenge and inspire our students to make a difference far into the future.

Thank you to everyone who made our Vision 2020 campaign such a tremendous success. Your unwavering support and commitment is what makes Hofstra Law such a special institution.

I look forward to another exciting academic year, and this new chapter for our Law School — Hofstra Law 2.0!

Warmest regards,

Judge Gail Prudenti
Dean
