The Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University and the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell hosted the National Medical-Legal Trial Competition last week, sponsored by DOAR, an industry leader in trial consultants. Chicago-Kent College of Law defeated Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law in the finals of the competition which were held at the Nassau County Supreme Court and Hofstra Law School.
The National Medical-Legal Trial Competition, in its seventh year, is the only trial competition in the country where a medical school and a law school collaborate to simulate real-life expert testimony by doctors. This year, the final round was presided over by the Honorable Juan Merchan ’94.
“Our competition features a new, innovative and unique approach to a mock trial competition,” said Jared Rosenblatt, Special Professor of Law, and tournament director. “Upon release of the fact pattern, a Zucker School of Medicine student was assigned as an expert witness and prepared for trial with each competing school, and Hofstra Law School students were assigned as lay witnesses for the case.”
