On Nov. 14, 2014, Professor James Sample presented at the symposium, “Courts, Campaigns, and Corruption: Judicial Recusal Five Years After Caperton, ” an event co-sponsored by the New York University Journal of Legislation and Public Policy, the Brennan Center for Justice and the American Bar Association’s Center for Professional Responsibility.
Participants in the symposium included Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman of the New York State Court of Appeals, former Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb of the Alabama Supreme Court, Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor of the Ohio Supreme Court and former Justice Louis Butler of the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
Along with fellow law professors Brad Smith and Keith Swisher, Professor Sample presented remarks and participated in a discussion on “Caperton and the Courts: Did the Floodgates Open?” moderated by Adam Liptak, Supreme Court correspondent for The New York Times.
