Julian Ku, the Maurice A. Deane Distinguished Professor of Constitutional Law, appeared on WCBS’s CBS-2 News in a report on the reaction from New Yorkers to President Donald Trump’s announcement Wednesday that the United States is recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

In his interview with correspondent Carolyn Gusoff, Professor Ku explained, as Gusoff summarized it, “that the president is on firm ground legally.”

“We are definitely taking Israel’s side, but we may not be going to the maximalist position,” Ku said.

“The headline is: We recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,” he said. “The detail is: Where is the border of Jerusalem?”
