This past summer I had the opportunity of working with the Safe Passage Project, a nonprofit dedicated to aiding immigrant children and ensuring that no child faces the legal system unrepresented. I had a great experience and acquired many legal skills that I know I will use in my career. I was assigned a mentor, who trusted me and my opinion and allowed me to make mistakes and learn from them. I was able to obtain experience both inside and outside the courtroom and was able to work with like-minded people who all shared the same goal.

By working with various clients, I was able to witness the immigration process from a different perspective. My internship coincided with the separating children crisis that occurred this past summer. Being able to talk with these children and discuss life-changing decisions with them was extremely life-changing for me. I will forever be grateful to my Safe Passage family for teaching me how to be a better advocate and helping me make a difference in someone’s life.
