This summer I was fortunate to work at the United States Coast Guard First District Legal Office in Boston. I had a great experience and acquired many legal skills. One of the most interesting aspects of my internship was the exposure to both military and civilian law.
The First District Legal Office is responsible for the overseeing the legal activities of Coast Guard members in eight states and answers varied types of legal questions. All the lawyers in the Coast Guard work as a team and embody the Coast Guard core values of honor, respect and devotion to duty. The lawyers in the Coast Guard are made up of both judge advocates and civilian attorneys who practice a wide range of law. While interning with the Coast Guard I was exposed to practice areas including housing law, military justice, marine safety and intelligence law.
One of the best parts of the internship was the people in the Coast Guard. I was fortunate to receive training from intelligent, respectable individuals who spent the summer providing mentorship and guidance. The members of the Coast Guard were some of the best people I have met. I truly had a fantastic experience!
